Your outdoor seating area is the perfect place to relax, socialise with friends and enjoy the warm summer months. However, the right décor will really help you to make the most of your garden throughout the year, especially if you change the style throughout the different seasons.
Decorating the Deck in Spring and Summer
Spring has always represented new life. When spring arrives trees start to bud and flowers start to bloom. Therefore hanging baskets are a great way to decorate your decking area during the spring months. You can purchase ready-made hanging baskets or you could easily create one yourself. The advantage of creating your own is that you get to choose the flowers that go into it. Of course you can keep them throughout the summer months too.
In terms of furniture you should aim for something light such as wicker. White patio furniture will also look good in the spring. Again, both of these furniture ideas can be used throughout spring and summer.
A great idea for summer is to create a beach theme. Blues, white and yellow will all go great for this type of theme. Wicker and bamboo chairs can be great additions to the deck, even deck chairs if you like that sort of thing. Oil burning torches will give your deck a Polynesian look and will be great an evening barbecue.
The idea is to create a bright, welcoming environment. Spring and summer are colourful months and your decking should reflect this.
Decorating your Deck in Autumn and Winter
As autumn approaches the nights start to draw in and the weather gets a little more unpredictable. The main thing to keep in mind through the autumn and winter months is that the weather can be quite harsh. Therefore spring and summer furniture will need to be replaced with something more hard-wearing. Wicker and light plastic chairs for example will be no use in windy, harsh weather. You should ideally purchase weatherproof furniture that won’t blow away.
The best colours for autumn and winter are earthy tones. Oranges, browns and stone will all go well. A water feature will look great in the autumn, although it will be prone to getting clogged up with leaves. You should also update your flowers too. Your local garden centre can help you pick the best winter plants.
You might think that you will hardly use your deck during the winter months but with the right decoration and maybe a patio heater there is no reason why you shouldn’t enjoy it just as much as during the summer.
